HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Dalio Education released a scathing report last year that found 119,000 young people in Connecticut are at risk of becoming disconnected from school, work or other social supports.

Since then, Dalio Education has partnered with Community Science to understand the stories of those young people. The project interviewed over 70 people and revealed their results Monday at the state capitol.

Organizers hope to elevate the voices of disconnected youth to understand better how to tackle the crisis.

“Too often, education as a system in this state is intended as a system of opportunity; it becomes a system that too often does not succeed by our young people,” Dalio Education’s co-CEO Andrew Ferguson said. “A system that too often finds your young folk expelled or suspended from school and connected to the justice system. That’s not how this should work. It should be better.”

Dalio Education emphasizes the need for the state to work together to provide better support systems for young people and help them realize their potential.
