Van Drew fundraising over GOP attack ads

After weak Q1 showing, ‘comeback kid’ congressman amps up efforts

Rep. Jeff Van Drew’s latest fundraising appeal leverages GOP attack ads leveled against him.

“The National Republican Campaign Committee has already run attack ads against me here at home and the biggest GOP Super PAC of all, the Congressional Leadership Fund, is naming me as a top-target,” Van Drew said in a fundraising email to supporters. “The misleading ads are going to start pounding the airwaves before we know it. That’s why I’m working so hard to build a grassroots-driven campaign operation right here in South Jersey in 2019.”

The first-term congressman beat former Atlantic County Freeholder Seth Grossman by 8 points last year, flipping a seat the GOP held for 24 years against a candidate who faced fire over controversial remarks from the onset of the general campaign.

After raising just $120,556 in the first quarter of 2019 — Van Drew told the New Jersey Globe his campaign immediately after taking office — the former state senator brought in $637,835 over the most recent reporting period.

The center-right Democrat is a top target for Republicans aiming to win back the seats they lost in last year’s elections.

“Wealthy extremist Super PACs are still going to try and define me as a hyper-partisan politician,” Van Drew said in the email. “Our team will need to be able to respond when these attacks come and that’s why your grassroots contributions are so important: They allow us to reach every voter with our positive message for South Jersey.”

  1. A disinterested observer not knowing anything other than what National GOP Congress leaders (NRCC) do and say woul reach this conclusion. GOP leaders are working just as hard to elect “moderate” Democrat Jeff Van Drew for Congress next year, as they did last year. Libertyandprosperity
