SUMMIT MENS SEMIS: Omaha overpowers South Dakota
Coyotes never recover from slow start and fall 100-75
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The South Dakota basketball team fell to the No. 1 seeded Omaha Mavericks Saturday night 100-75 in the Summit League Tournament Semifinals inside the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.
Chase Forte had a team high 24 points on 8-of-17 shooting with three 3-pointers. Kaleb Stewart added 13 points with three triples, while Paul Bruns added 10 points and tallied a team high seven rebounds. Dre Bullock was scored in double-figures with 10 points and had four boards.
A rested Mavericks squad set the tone in the first 10 minutes of the game as they raced out to a 28-11 lead at the midway point of the first half. A 19-2 run from Omaha blew the game open early, with the Mavericks leading 38-11 with 7:02 left in the first half. Omaha shot .656 percent from the field in the first half, while holding USD to .269 shooting percentage and went into halftime with a 55-26 lead.
Omaha took its largest lead of the game early in the second half, 66-28, off a JJ White triple. Omaha held the lead above 30 for the majority of the second half while shooting .587 percent from the field. Mayuom Buom capped off his career as a Coyote with his first 3-pointer of the season and fifth of his career.
Omaha had the edge in rebounding 43-32, points in the paint 54-22 and had 20 fast break points.
The Coyotes close out the 2024-25 campaign with a 19-14 overall record.
