RUSTON, La. (KNOE) - The Peach Parade kicked off the weekend events ahead of the Peach Festival on June 6 at Ruston High School.

Many floats from different organizations took part in the parade festivities.

The parade started at Ruston High School and strolled down several streets throughout the Ruston area.

The theme for this year’s parade was “Diamond in the Orchard: Celebrating 75 Years of Sweetness.”

Jenny Morse, a parade participant, said the parade and the festival has been a tradition in her family for years.

“When they were younger, my kids would always come with a grocery sack and wait for all the candy and beads to be thrown, so it’s just kind of part of the day.”

“You always just want to start with the parade and then the weekend kicks off and you can go to all the shops downtown and get peach ice cream at Mitcham’s and all the things. It’s definitely part of the tradition,” said Morse.
