Democratic megadonor Michael Bloomberg, frustrated over Senate Republicans’ handling of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation process, has pledged $20 million to Democrats running for U.S. Senate, The Washington Post reported.

President Donald Trump tapped D.C. Circuit Court Judge Kavanaugh to take the seat of former Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy after Kennedy retired. Kavanaugh’s confirmation in the Senate, considered nearly inevitable early on, has grown into a highly partisan fight over the veracity of decades-old sexual assault and misconduct allegations from Kavanaugh’s time in high school and college. “Mike was extraordinarily disappointed in the Republican leadership in the Senate and feels increasingly passionate about changing it,” Bloomberg adviser Kevin Sheekey told WaPo. “And he’s already enthusiastic about the impact he’s having on House races and increasingly confident that he can contribute to a Democratic takeover.”

Bloomberg pledged his $20 million gift to the Senate Majority PAC, which aids Democratic campaigns in competitive races. The gift comes on top of $80 million worth of promises already made to help elect Democrats to Congress.

Democrats seeking to gain control of the Senate are fighting an uphill battle. Nine seats are considered to be toss-ups, but most of those are currently held by Democratic members, according to RealClearPolitics. Republicans have about a 70 percent chance of retaining control of the Senate, according to Wednesday projections from FiveThirtyEight.

Bloomberg is openly considering a run at the presidency as a Democrat in 2020.
