GOP super PAC ad attacks Kim over Pelosi vote

A Super PAC with ties to Republican leadership in the House launched an ad Friday, attacking Rep. Andy Kim over his Thursday vote to elect House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to that role.

“With his very first vote in congress, Andy Kim caved to the party bosses and fell right in line, voting to support Nancy Pelosi for speaker,” the ad’s narrator says. “The same failed leadership, the same insiders pulling the strings. It takes most politicians years to sell out, but Andy Kim broke his bond with voters on the very first day.”

During the campaign, Kim said he would not vote to put Pelosi into a leadership role. He was one of 32 Democrats to oppose Pelosi’s leadership bid in a closed-door caucus meeting held in late November.

Fellow freshmen Reps. Mikie Sherrill and Jeff Van Drew followed through on their promises to oppose Pelosi’s leadership bid. Sherrill voted for Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-Illinois), while Van Drew simply voted “no.”

The ad is one of six being aired by the Congressional Leadership Fund in swing districts across the country. It will run on digital platforms in New Jersey’s third congressional district for the next month.
